Privacy

Current is built with restraint. We collect only what is necessary for the service to function, and nothing more.

We do not sell your data. We do not run ads. We do not profile you for targeting.

What We Store

To operate Current, we store:

• Your username and email
• A hashed version of your password (never the password itself)
• The content you create: posts, comments, votes, bookmarked streams, and notifications
• Messages sent through the in-app contextual chat feature
• Images you upload to posts and messages
• Basic system data required to keep the service running

We do not store:

• Payment information
• Advertising or tracking profiles

Local Device Storage

The Current mobile app stores some data locally on your device to improve performance and user experience:

• Chat message cache - A local copy of your chat history for faster loading
• Draft posts - Your in-progress posts are auto-saved locally every 3 seconds
• User preferences - Settings like font size and theme preference

This data is stored only on your device and is not transmitted to our servers unless you explicitly send it (e.g., by posting a draft). You can clear local data by deleting the app or using your device's app storage settings.

Image Storage & Processing

When you upload an image to a post or direct message:

• The image is stored on secure cloud storage infrastructure
• Images are automatically scanned for inappropriate content
• Posts: Images flagged as NSFW (nudity, sexual content, violence) are rejected and not stored
• Messages: Images flagged as NSFW are stored but automatically blurred for the recipient
• Image metadata (upload time, file size, content hash) is stored in our database
• Images are permanently deleted when you delete the associated post, message, or account

We do not use uploaded images for any purpose other than displaying them within Current. Images are not used for training AI models, advertising, or profiling.

Cookies

Current uses a small number of essential cookies required for the app to function.

These cookies are used to:

• Keep you signed in (session cookie)
• Protect sign-in requests (CSRF protection)
• Remember your sign-in route during authentication (callback URL)

These cookies:

• Are not used for advertising
• Are not used for tracking across websites
• Are not optional, as the app cannot function without them

We do not use cookies for analytics or marketing purposes.

Analytics & Error Tracking

We use privacy-first tools to understand how Current is used and to detect technical issues.

Analytics

We use analytics to understand basic usage patterns:

• Does not create personal profiles
• Tracks only aggregate, anonymous activity (page visits, feature usage)
• Does not link analytics data to individual user accounts
• Used to improve the service, not to manipulate behavior

Error Monitoring

We use error monitoring to detect and fix crashes:

• Captures technical errors when the app breaks
• Records device type and OS version (e.g., "iPhone 15, iOS 17")
• Does not collect post content or personal messages
• Helps us fix bugs faster

These tools exist to keep the service healthy and reliable. We do not share data from these services with third parties for advertising or profiling.

How Data Is Handled

Your data is hosted with secure infrastructure providers.

Access is restricted and used only for:

• Keeping the service running
• Investigating bugs
• Responding to reports or abuse
• Providing support when you ask for it

We do not access content unless it is necessary for moderation or technical reasons.

Third-Party Services

We use trusted third-party services to operate Current:

• Analytics provider - Processes anonymous usage data (not linked to your identity)
• Error tracking service - Captures technical errors and crash reports
• Cloud storage - Stores images you upload to posts and messages
• Content moderation API - Automatically scans uploaded images for inappropriate content

These services are bound by data processing agreements and are permitted to use your data only to perform services on our behalf. They do not use your data for their own purposes.

Your Control

You can delete your account directly from the app at any time:

Settings → Delete Account

Deleting your account permanently removes your profile, posts, comments, votes, and all associated data. This action is irreversible.

If you prefer, you can also request deletion by contacting:

We will handle deletion quietly and without friction.

Account Deletion & Data Retention

When you delete your account:

• Your profile (username, email, password) is immediately and permanently deleted
• All posts and comments you authored are deleted
• All images you uploaded (in posts and messages) are permanently deleted from cloud storage
• Your votes, bookmarks, and notification history are deleted
• Chat threads and messages involving your account are deleted
• Local device data (cached messages, drafts, preferences) remains on your device until the app is deleted

We do not retain personal data after account deletion. Aggregate, de-identified analytics data (e.g., event counts) may persist in our analytics system but cannot be linked back to you.

Children's Privacy

Current is not intended for users under 17 years of age.

We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 17. If you believe a child under 17 has provided information to Current, please contact us at hello@usecurrent.app and we will delete it promptly.

Our Position

Current is not built to extract value from personal data. It exists to let conversations flow, not to track, rank, or optimize people.

If a future feature would require collecting more data, we will revisit this policy transparently.
